Ethnologue
|
The Ethnologue is a constantly-changing catalog of the world’s languages, published by SIL International, a partner organization of Wycliffe Bible Translators. When Ethnologue began in 1951, the first edition contained mimeographed information on 46 languages. In 1997 (13th edition), the contents were shared online. In 2013 (17th edition) Ethnologue information became shared primarily on its website.
When The Story of the Bible ebook was first published in 2013, the Ethnologue listed 6,909 known living languages. The latest edition of the Ethnologue lists 7,159 languages, a "number constantly in flux." It is “the most authoritative resource on world languages” available. |
