Wycliffe Bible, large
You can see a description of Thomas of Woodstock’s Bible on the British Library website. At the bottom of the page are three images from the Bible, which you can enlarge by clicking on them. The page at the bottom right is the beginning of Acts of the Apostles, which Wycliffe calls “The Apostles Deeds.” (See “ye apostles dedes” in red at the top of the page when you enlarge it.) The first line of text has a word at the beginning and then “you the,” the rest of the word is on the second line, “ophilus.” This text reads “you Theophilus, first I made a sermon or Word of all the things that Jesus began for to do and teach til unto the day in the which he commanded to the apostles by the holy ghost.”
NOTE: In October, 2023, the British Library's website experienced a cyberattack. "The journey to full recovery will be a long one," said Roll Keating, chief executive of the British Library, and this link will not work until then. |
