Gutenberg Bible
Gutenberg printed about 180 copies of his 42-line Bible; 48 are still in existence, although only 21 are complete. Many of them can be viewed online. The most interesting website is the British Library, which has a complete Bible both on paper and on vellum. Click on "Texts" and view either of the Bibles or compare the two.
NOTE: In October, 2023, the British Library's website experienced a cyberattack. "The journey to full recovery will be a long one," said Roll Keating, chief executive of the British Library, and the British Library link will not work until then. Other websites with Gutenberg Bibles: |
